• I’m totally on Wei Wuxian’s side here, but jeezum he did put Jiang Cheng in a suuuuuuper awkward position doing it


• Hooo this whole ‘clan summit’ scene is such an interesting and horrible look at the way a bunch of people sitting around and feeling wronged can put together a nasty narrative out of half-true rumors and collectively agree that’s it’s the truth.


• MianMian I love you that took serious guts. DAMN you go girl!


• I don’t like Jin Dad at all. Meng Kid, you’re on my short list too.


• Well now I’m very curious about Lan Wangji’s parents


• I know it’s sad and tragic but I am loling at the way Wei Wuxian pretty much buried Wen Ning in talismans


• I am a professional children’s librarian and I am here to tell you that a small child wanting to be buried in a field as a turnip is 100% realistic


• Wei Wuxian really thrives best when he has someone to bicker with, doesn’t he? It’s fun getting to see Wen Qing loosen up some, too.

Episode 28

• Oh god, you can so clearly see where Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng are each coming from in this argument, and it’s so painful to watch


• WEN QING: Be quiet when you go in the cave, okay? Don’t disturb Wen Ning, WEI WUXIAN AND JIANG CHENG: *have a shouting match standing right next to his bed*


• I’m so impressed that Wen Qing just turned Jiang Cheng down? I mean, it makes sense for her character, it’s just... this is the kind of narrative where all the designated partners get together somehow, and I love that they’re not. Not because I dislike Jiang Cheng, even though he’s not in my top five – I appreciate what a tough position he’s been put into. I just love that Wen Qing is declaring love for her brother over romantic love. It’s really nice to see.


• Oh geez they’re actually going to duel?!?


• Oh, Wei Wuxian just sort of produces talismans out of nowhere?? I kept wondering where he was getting all that paper from if they were on the run.

• I love how Wei Wuxian is just completely unbothered by the cosplayers


• I LOVE JIANG YANLI SO MUCH she looks so pretty and she makes sure Wen Ning gets some soup too!


• Awww, Jiang Cheng wanted Wei Wuxian to come up with Jiang Yanli’s baby’s courtesy name, he does still care!


• I’m so glad the fight between Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian was planned out ahead of time for the visuals


• Jfc Jins, ‘Fragrance Hall’? Why is your house so extra???


• Meng Kid is straight up about to murder a patriarch for not letting him hold a baby


• HANG ON the Jin Bros are named ‘Zixun’ and ‘Zixuan’?!? UNFAIR


• I do love how intractably stubborn Lan Wangji can be


• What is the significance of Meng Kid’s vey distinctive hat? Also he is for sure planning stuff and maybe poisoning Jin Jerkface and I do not trust his intentions one inch.

OMG ME TOO. That tale is just super, super shady. It's always the one you least expect... when all the neighbors are totally astounded. No way! He seemed so strict and upright, and had about 3333333 rules!!

This is where it showed I only watched this once, because I think I missed this? I'd set this down in my mind as Sulkmeister totally giving up on that relationship because she is Wen, and he has no backbone. Am I being too uncharitable? It is possible!

It was very understated! But she returns the comb to him in a Significant Fashion, and says something I'd need to go back and rewatch to recount accurately but I'm pretty sure it was a gently-worded 'I can't love someone who would act the way you're acting right now'. I thought it was pretty cool!

Also I support being uncharitable towards Jiang Cheng. I'm sympathetic, because boy he has not had it easy either, but wow. I can also be annoyed with him at the same time.

OH MY GOD it looked gross to me too and I love this idea?? I don't know if I want it to be that she's a terrible cook and her brothers love her too much to say anything and keep choking down the soup, or that she's a terrible cook and her brothers are so used to it that they genuinely enjoy it anyway. :D :D :D

Ah right, I remember the Returning of the Comb! I think it never registered to me as actually ending the relationship because I felt he'd already done that by leaving it (and her) hanging as soon as it became too hard politically. (I mean. The man has NO backbone. It's a huge part of my issues with him...)

My soup headcanon is that as the pampered daughter of the clan leader, she never ever cooked, but one day got it into her head to make the local specialty for her brothers. She served it to them all proud and smiley and watched them like a hawk as they tried it - and it was AWFUL, but of course they could only choke it down and tell her they loved it, thank you so much sis. And THEN, because they loved it so much, she kept on making it for them exactly. like. that.

Ahahaha that's amazing, because iirc she gives the soup to at least one other person (Wen Ning, who gives it to A-Yuan, and does she make it for Jin Peacock too?) and they choke it down too, which means that everyone loves her too much to say anything! Which is as it should be, because she is a precious cinnamon roll.

(A-Yuan I give a pass, because he seemed to like it but was also 3 and had probably happily eaten dirt on the very same day.)

Su She was the Lan dude waaay back who betrayed the secret of the cold cave to the Wens when they stormed Cloud Recesses, in a moment which felt pretty understandable to me but he got kicked out by the Lans because of it.

Wen Ning being not actually dead makes no sense and I think was just a fig leaf so that the show wasn't *technically* showing necromancy, which is a banned topic.

OH both of these things make so much sense! I do remember that guy, and I definitely buy Wen Ning being totally not a walking corpse as the 'communist brotherhood' of this show. :D

Su She was also the overconfident dude in the Biling Lake episode, who tried to imitate Lan Wangji and sent his sword into the water - but couldn't get it back. And then had to be saved by the others.

Yeah... I have a lot of sympathy for the position Jiang Cheng was in - clan leader way too young, dealing with a very complicated sibling situation, and let's be real his mom in particular didn't really set him up for success there - but I don't have that much sympathy. :D

Lan Wangji is just so... Lan Wangji. I love him. ;__;

One of the sexiest moments of the whole show!

Omg I know, right? It's right up there with the moment when Lan Wangji comes up the stairs like wrath personified and scares the shit out of a bunch of Wen soldiers and makes them kneel.

Something I found both impressive and infuriating, the way they reinforced each others opinion and patting themselves on the back.

This whole show has been such a sharp and interesting look at the way mob mentality works and popular perception can swing the balance with little relationship to the truth. Plus pretty people fucking shit up with gorgeous hair. :D
